Custom Installations

The appeal of custom builds and installations is in the inherent variety, and therefore the inherent challenge of each project. We have created everything from Shu Sugi Ban outdoor showers to hand-forged railing systems, and each project has been an exercise in listening, experimenting, honing, and delivering. If there’s a project you have in mind for a space you’re curating, whether residential or commercial, let’s talk.

  • Shou Sugi Ban is an ancient Japanese technique that preserves cedar with the very force that might also destroy it: fire. Charring the wood to just the right degree of burn activates the natural oils that help weatherproof it and dramatizes the natural beauty of the grain. The shower floor features slate gathered from the shore of Lake Michigan.

  • A build and install project for a three-story midcentury modern home in the woods outside Nashville. The posts are fabricated 16-gauge steel and the top rail is cedar to match the original siding of the house. Steel cabling modernized the home and opened up the view.

  • The bridge spans 20-feet and can sustain up to 2000 lbs at its weakest point. It features ¼” marine-grade braided steel cables and wood collars to minimize damage to the trees. Heavy duty rope serves as the handrail.

  • A project for the bathroom of teenage twins, we transformed an ikea double vanity by building a 2”-deep live-edge counter made of beautiful burled maple then lacquered with a polyurethane sealant specified for interiors.
